Waterfowl hunting opportunity is abundant either through private lease or on the State of Missouri Department of Conservation managed property. Fountain Grove Wildlife Area near Meadville is one of the oldest waterfowl management areas in the state. Recent upgrades at Fountain Grove have provided the area additional resources to maintain waterfowl hunting traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation whether your hunt is in a camouflaged blind or in a wade and shoot pool. The elusive Eastern Wild Turkey population has rebounded to encouraging numbers in recent years and has been considered the ultimate prize to hunters testing their hunting skills in stealth, camouflage, scouting, game calling, and perseverance.
Public land and private lease provide many opportunities for this spring ritual. Orange-clad quail and pheasant hunters take the field and still thrill to the Pointer frozen at the scent, the other dogs honoring the point and the anticipation of the flurry of wings at the flush of birds.
