Leadership in Transition: Honoring the Past, Welcoming the Future
The City of Brookfield is proud to recognize the leadership of Dana Tarpening, who has faithfully served the city for over four decades and is currently acting as City Manager during a period of transition. Dana was appointed City Manager in May 2013, following her long tenure as City Clerk since 1986. Her dedication, institutional knowledge, and steady leadership have guided Brookfield through years of progress, community development, and municipal growth.
On October 1, 2025, Dana will formally pass the torch to Brandon Roberts, who has been appointed as Brookfield’s next City Manager. Brandon brings nearly 20 years of experience in public service, including leadership roles in emergency management, municipal operations, and government transparency. He is currently working alongside Dana to ensure a smooth and seamless leadership transition.
Brookfield operates under a council-manager form of government, which combines the policy leadership of elected officials with the managerial expertise of an appointed City Manager. In this structure, the City Manager is appointed by the City Council and serves as the chief executive and administrative officer of the city. The City Manager supervises all city personnel—except for the City Attorney and Municipal Judge—and is responsible for carrying out the policies and procedures set by the council. The City Manager also represents the city in regional, state, and federal matters, as well as in local community initiatives.
Brandon Roberts will bring a fresh perspective to the role, grounded in a belief in service, transparency, and strategic planning. Dana’s continued presence and support through September will ensure that Brookfield’s operations remain consistent and community-focused during the transition.
Together, Dana Tarpening and Brandon Roberts represent both the strength of Brookfield’s legacy and the promise of its future.
