Meet the Mayor – Richard Techau

Richard Techau

Greetings from the Mayor

As mayor and on behalf of the City Council, I would like to thank you for visiting the official website of the City of Brookfield. As you browse our website you will find information about city departments and their services, and detailed information about city amenities and facilities for your use and enjoyment. Finally, this site will also provide you information applicable to you as an area resident, including links to local businesses, churches, calendar of events and city news. If you are new to our community, please visit the community profile and the newcomer’s info page.

We have so much to be proud of regarding our community. It is a great place to live, raise a family and retire. We strive to maintain our heritage and tradition of being a small town that is rooted in deep family values.

I am proud to be a member of this great community and I am honored to have served you on the city council and now as your mayor representing my friends, neighbors, and family.

For those of you that do not know me I would like to introduce myself. I am the owner of North Central Missouri Graphics, a print shop and office supply business. I have been a main street businessman in Brookfield since 1983 and very active in public life. I previously served for 21 years on the Brookfield City Council. I was reelected after 7 years and I am currently in my second term after returning to serve on City Council. I was first elected in 1995 and served as mayor from 2002 to 2007. I believe that each councilperson brings a different perspective to the table and that this is important in order to represent the whole community.

I also serve on the board of Green Hills Ballooning, Inc., sponsor of the Great Pershing Balloon Derby, and belong to Brookfield Lodge #874 of The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, holding various offices for over 40 years. In 1984, I was elected Exalted Ruler of the Elks and in 2007 was President of the Missouri Elks Association, which involved travel to all lodges in Missouri. I spent 8 years as the Grand Lodge Auditing and Accounting Committee person for Area 5 which encompasses Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

My wife, Sherry, and I live in Brookfield, where Sherry is employed as a HR/Financial Systems Supervisor for Walsworth. My daughter, Felicia, is an elementary learning disabilities teacher and has two children.

Once again, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve you and look forward to moving our city forward in positive ways. I encourage you to stay engaged and I invite you to contact me at any time with your suggestions and comments about our city and your government. As citizens, I can only ask for your interest, your involvement, and your concern for our community.
