Tillman House Museum Calls for Community Support to Preserve Local History

Brookfield, MO — The Tillman House Museum, located at 303 N Livingston St in Brookfield, has been a vital part of our community since its founding in 2010. As a beacon of local heritage, the museum safeguards stories and artifacts that chronicle our area’s rich history—from the Civil War era to modern times. Many residents of Brookfield and surrounding Linn County have found connections to their family roots within the museum’s collection of books, photographs, and historical newspapers.

A Historic Treasure in Peril

Housed in a vintage home generously donated by the Tillman family, the museum offers visitors an authentic glimpse into the past with period furnishings and historical artifacts that reflect the life and times of Brookfield and its neighboring communities. However, the last year has brought significant hardship. Severe weather has caused substantial damage to both the structure and interior of the house, putting at risk the very legacy we strive to preserve.

A Call for Community Action

To restore the Tillman House Museum and continue its mission, we are asking for your help. We are working toward an urgent fundraising goal of $6,000 to cover essential repairs. Thanks to the generosity of past donors, we have already raised $1,975.92, but additional support is needed to reach our target.

How You Can Help

  • Annual Membership Dues: $20
  • One-Time Donation: Any amount of your choice

Every contribution, big or small, will make a direct impact in ensuring the museum’s preservation and reopening. Checks payable to Linn County Historical Society, PO Box 394, Brookfield, MO.

Preserving Our Shared Heritage

Your donation will help restore this treasured landmark and allow it to continue serving as a resource for generations to come. We hope to reopen the museum by May, but we cannot do it without your support.

Stay Involved

We invite you to visit the museum when it reopens and join us in shaping the future of our historical society. Monthly meetings are held at the Brookfield Public Library on the second Thursday of each month at 4 p.m. We welcome your involvement and dedication to keeping Brookfield’s history alive.
