The City of Brookfield is proud to welcome Brandon Roberts as its new City Manager. With nearly two decades of leadership experience in public service, Brandon brings a strong foundation in municipal operations, emergency management, and organizational development to his new role.
As City Manager, Brandon is responsible for overseeing the city’s daily operations, managing personnel, implementing policies set by the City Council, and representing Brookfield in regional and state-level collaborations. The city operates under a council-manager form of government, which combines the vision of elected officials with the professional leadership of an appointed executive.
Brandon’s career path began in fire service, where he rose through the ranks to become Deputy Chief of Operations with the Lake Ozark Fire Protection District. He later served as Director of Sunshine Law Outreach with the Missouri Attorney General’s Office, where he focused on promoting transparency and accountability in government. His broad experience in public service has shaped a leadership style built on integrity, responsiveness, and a deep respect for community voices.
“I’ve always believed in the value of service above self,” Brandon shared. “Public service allows me to contribute to something greater—helping others, solving real problems, and building systems that improve lives.”
Though new to Brookfield, Brandon is quickly immersing himself in the community. Over the next several months, his top priorities include:
- Listening to city staff, elected officials, and residents to gain a deeper understanding of local needs and values
- Conducting a wage study to support fair and competitive compensation
- Preparing for the upcoming budget cycle with a focus on fiscal responsibility
- Investigating new revenue avenues
- Laying the groundwork for a long-term strategic plan that supports growth, revitalization, and community pride
“Brookfield has a strong sense of tradition and a community that genuinely cares about its future,” Brandon said. “I’m honored to be part of this next chapter and committed to leading with transparency, active listening, and inclusive decision-making.”
Brandon holds a Bachelor of Science in Fire Administration from Liberty University, where he graduated with highest honors. He is currently pursuing an Executive Master of Public Administration from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University, one of the nation’s top programs for public service leadership.
Outside of work, Brandon enjoys spending time with his wife and children, exploring the outdoors, and reading about leadership and public policy. He also values mentoring others and continuing his own professional growth.
Brandon will officially assume full responsibilities as City Manager on October 1. Until then, Dana Tarpening will serve as Acting City Manager, assisting with the transition. Dana has been a dedicated leader and public servant for the City of Brookfield for 47 years. She began her career as City Clerk in 1978 and was appointed City Manager in May 2013. Her extensive knowledge and deep commitment to the Brookfield community have been instrumental to the city’s success, and her guidance will help ensure a smooth and effective leadership transition.
Please join us in welcoming Brandon Roberts to the City of Brookfield and in thanking Dana Tarpening for her continued service during this time of transition.
