City Council Filing Begins


Candidate filing begins December 15, 2020 for Brookfield City Council.


The General Election will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.  One (1) Councilperson will be elected at large to serve a three (3) year term.  Currently, the seat  is a vacated one that was held by Councilman George Head.  City Council serve their community by setting policies for the City of Brookfield, approving the operating budget each fiscal year, and ensuring the best interests of the City as whole are met.  City of Brookfield residents are encouraged to file as a candidate for the City Council.

Candidate filing opens at 8:00 am, Tuesday, December 15, 2020 and will close at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.  Those wishing to file can do so in person with the City Clerk at Brookfield City Hall between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm between those dates, excluding December 23rd – 25th, January 1st, and weekends during the filing period.  If the City Clerk is out of the office the City Manager will accept the forms on behalf of the City Clerk.  In the event City Hall is closed to the public due to COVID-19 precautions / restrictions, appointments can be made with the City Clerk by calling (660) 258-3377 or via email.

Candidates are required to file an affidavit with the Department of Revenue regarding payment of any state income taxes, personal property taxes, municipal taxes, real property taxes on place of residence, as stated on the declaration of candidacy, or if the person is a past or present corporate officer of any fee office that owes any taxes to the state per RSMo 115.306.  This is in addition to the “Declaration of Candidacy” form and Personal Financial Disclosure form (if required).  Those filing are to be a resident of the City of Brookfield for at least one year at the time of the election and a registered voter.

Individuals wishing to be register to vote for the upcoming election in April can do so by filing with their County Clerk by March 10, 2021.


Filing for area school board, city council, township boards, ambulance and health department boards and water district boards runs Dec. 15- Jan. 19.
